The General Studies Department of the College was formally established in 2014 to function and discharge its responsibilities as mandated by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The core aim is to ensure the integration of General Studies into the curriculum of tertiary institutions to broaden the intellectual horizons of the students.
The core responsibility of the department include: exposing students regardless of their area of specialisation to various subjects; help them to be physically fit; communicate effectively and apply acquired knowledge to enhance their functioning in their socio-cultural environment.
The courses taught in the General Studies Department are mandated by the NBTE, and must be passed as a prerequisite for graduation. Students are expected to take all the modules in the Use and Communication in English, Contemporary Social Problems, Physical and Health Education, Citizenship and Mathematics.
Dr Mrs Okpeze is the incumbent Dean of the School of Basic Studies and Media Technology.
Dr. (Mrs.) Victoria Ezinwanne Okpeze is a seasoned educator and administrator with over 20 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership. She currently serves as the Head of Department, General Studies (GNS) at the Federal College of Agriculture, Ibadan. Her academic focus lies in Health Education, Sports Science, and Educational Research. She is also an active sports coordinator and vocational trainer in modern beekeeping.
