The department of Home and Rural Economics, Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan, was established in the year 2012 to meet the needs of the society as well as to produce personnel who will be able to exploit rural resources for the improvement of industrial potentials and the welfare of the family and rural communities.
The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in 2011 visited the College for inspection of resources available to start the programme. After the remarkable success of the visitation, the programme took off in the following year. The department has enough staff strength to carter for the needs of the student. Students graduating from the department are trained to be self-reliant and to be employers of labour. The department provides services such as hairdressing and has a restaurant where members of staff of the college, students and other people in the Moor Plantation community eats.
The department is currently headed by Mrs Medinat Ololade Akinola. She has her MSc in Home Science Management from the Olabisi Onabanjo University.
