The Department of Agriculture runs programmes in Higher National Diploma in Crop Production Technology, Pest Management Technology, and the National Diploma in Agricultural Technology. The programmes evolved from the General Agriculture option previously run by the Federal College of Agriculture, Ibadan, prior to the advent of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) accreditation efforts in the Colleges of Agriculture in the country. Haven conducted a resource inspection to the programmes in 1991 and haven found out that there exist well-qualified academic staff, the NBTE granted a two-year provisional accreditation.
The primary goal of the programmes in the department is to produce higher agricultural technicians who are adequately and technically equipped with in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of crop production and are capable of managing large-scale farm enterprises.
The current Head of the Department is Dr (Mrs) Christianah Olubunmi Kayode. While she bagged a Bachelor of Agriculture in Soil Science from the Obafemi Awolowo University, she had her MSc. degree and PhD from the University of Ibadan.
Dr Aderemi Makinde is the head of the Crop Production Programme, while Dr (Mrs) Adenike Komolafe is the Head of Programme of Agricultural Technology and Dr (Mrs) Onasanya heads the Pest Management Technology.
