At the inception, the Agricultural Engineering Programme was known as the Agricultural Mechanization Department. It acquired its current name in 1989 when it was granted full accreditation by the NBTE to run the Higher National Diploma (HND) Agricultural Engineering Programme and therefore became the pioneer institution of its kind in Nigeria to be accorded such accreditation status.
Few years ago, the NBTE, again, tinkered with the curriculum of the programme. As a result, the programme is now known as the Department of Agricultural Bio-environmental Engineering. Other programme offered by the department are Post Harvest Technology.
Engr (Dr) Titus Adeyinka Ilori is the incumbent Head of the department. He acquired his Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Ilorin and his second and doctorate degree from the University of Ibadan.
