The General Studies Department of the College was formally established in 2014 to function and discharge its responsibilities as mandated by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The core aim is to ensure the integration of General Studies into the curriculum of tertiary institutions to broaden the intellectual horizons of the students.
The core responsibility of the department include: exposing students regardless of their area of specialisation to various subjects; help them to be physically fit; communicate effectively and apply acquired knowledge to enhance their functioning in their socio-cultural environment.
The courses taught in the General Studies Department are mandated by the NBTE, and must be passed as a prerequisite for graduation. Students are expected to take all the modules in the Use and Communication in English, Contemporary Social Problems, Physical and Health Education, Citizenship and Mathematics.
Mr Oluwasegun Anthony Omoyajowo is the incumbent Dean of the School of Basic Studies and Media Technology. He has a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University), and a Master’s degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from the University of Lagos. He has another Master’s degree in Industrial Sociology from the University of Ibadan. He is a chartered member of the Nigerian Institute of Management and other professional bodies.
