Academic Programme

The Department of Agriculture is currently running the following academic programmes:

  1. National Diploma (ND) in Agricultural Engineering Technology on both full and part time basis.
  2. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agricultural Engineering (Farm Power and Machinery Option) on both full and part time basis.
  3. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agricultural Engineering (Post Harvest Technology Option) on both full and part time basis.

Admission Requirements

Candidates for the National Diploma in Agricultural Engineering Technology must first satisfy the following requirements to be eligible for admission into the programme.

  1. At least five (5) credit level passes in the West African School Certificate (WASC/GCE O’level), Senior Secondary School Certificate  (SSCE) or General Certificate (GCE) and / or National Examination Council Certificate (NECO) in not more than two (2) sittings.

Subject passed at credit level must include Biology / Agricultural Science, Physics and any two of the following: Geography, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, English Language, Chemistry. At least a pass in English Language and Mathematics / Statistics are compulsory.

  1. Candidates who have successfully completed the Board’s recognized pre-National Diploma (Science and Technology) courses may be admitted into the programme. Such students must have passed Biology / Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Mathematics and English Language at WASC/GCE, SSCE O’level before undertaking the course.
  2. Admission into the full time programme is through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

However, admission into the part time programme of the College which is a-three year programme of six (6) semesters and is through obtaining the Admission Form from the Registry Unit of the College, which should be submitted to the appropriate quarters along with the required credentials.

Candidates seeking admission into the Higher National Diploma in Farm Power and Machinery and Post Harvest Technology option, must first satisfy the conditions above and must have obtained the National Diploma in Agricultural Engineering Technology or Science Laboratory Technology from accredited programmes of recognized institutions with an evidence of at least one year post National Diploma cognate work experience.

Structure of the Programme

The National Diploma in Agricultural Engineering Technology (full time) programme is structured to last for two (2) years or four (4) semesters. This incorporates three to four months of supervised Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).

The Higher National Diploma in Farm Power and Machinery and Post Harvest Technology option (full time) programme is structured to last for two (2) years or four (4) semesters. This will be followed by one year mandatory National Youth Service Corps.

Duration for the Part Time programme is structured to last for three years or six semesters for both National and Higher National Diplomas. Lectures are held only on weekends (Friday and Saturday).
